Frequently asked questions
How do I get there?
We offer a shuttle from Central Rotorua, but most rafters find it more convenient to drive directly to our base. Located right across the road from the ‘put-in’ spot, our base provides plenty of safe parking—making it hassle-free for both you and us!
Is there a max weight limit?
While we do have a maximum weight limit of 130kg for safety reasons, it's not just about the number on the scale. It's also about the rafter's shape and whether they can safely fit into our safety gear. Luckily our wetsuits range from XXS - XXXXL.
Do I need to be physically fit?
An average level of fitness is preferred for your comfort, however, you don’t need to be an athlete! As long as you're in good health and comfortable with light-moderate activity, you’ll be ready to enjoy the experience. If you have any specific concerns, feel free to reach out!
Do I need to be able to swim?
Nope! We take many non-swimmers rafting who thoroughly enjoy their experience on the river. Every rafter is equipped with a personal flotation device (PFD), a crucial piece of gear specifically designed to keep you afloat if you end up in the water. During check-in and after the safety briefing, we make sure non-swimmers fully understand the risks and feel comfortable with the possibility of getting wet. Rest assured, though, help is always close by with our guides and safety on the river.
What is the minimum age?
To get the full Kaituna experience, waterfalls and all, you need to be 13 or older. This meets the standard minimum age for New Zealand's exciting Grade 4/5 rivers. But don't worry if you're under 13 and over 10! We’ll walk you to a special spot below the waterfall, where you can hop into the action. The second half of the trip is on a fun Grade 3 section, offering plenty of splashes and a great taste of the adventure!
Do I need experience?
No! You don’t need any experience, 80% of our rafters have never rafted before and our guides will teach you everything that you need to know.
